Eligibility and Prerequisites:
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is open to all ages, backgrounds, and proficiency levels. For those under 18, a liability release waiver must be completed by a parent or legal guardian, a testament to our commitment to safety and responsibility. Importantly, no prior firearm training is necessary to enroll in this course. Our dedicated instructors are unwavering in their mission to facilitate the development of a robust foundation in firearm handling, ensuring that every participant feels empowered, confident, and equipped.
Live-Fire Session
The highlight of your NRA Basic Pistol experience is the live-fire training session. This is where theory meets action, and you’ll have the chance to put your new skills to the test with the guidance of our certified instructors. It’s a safe, hands-on session that takes your learning to the next level. And as a reward for your efforts, you’ll receive a nationally-recognized certificate from the NRA after completing the shooting qualification.
Equipping Yourself
To participate in the live-fire portion, you should prepare 100 rounds of ammunition. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own – ammunition will be available for purchase at the range. Moreover, as part of the course cost, Bear Arms Training will provide firearms, ear protection, and eye protection. Of course, if you have your own equipment, feel free to bring it along. It’s essential to note that live ammunition is strictly prohibited within the classroom environment, as we place an unwavering emphasis on the safety and well-being of all participants. Throughout classroom sessions, our rigorous policy mandates that all firearms remain cased and unloaded without exceptions. Our resolute commitment to safety ensures that you can wholly focus on honing your skills, free from any concerns. Our instructors are dedicated to an exceptional level of safety in each course. Any violation of that safety and the student will be removed from the course immediately.

Which Shooting Range is Utilized?
Bear Arms Training has established partnerships with local ranges in the vicinity. Our primary range, situated in the Broad Run area, is a mere ten-minute drive from the classroom location in Vint Hill. Upon purchasing a course, participants receive all essential information, including course timing, location details, and more.
Am I Allowed to Bring My Own Firearm and Ammunition?
Certainly, we highly encourage it. However, if you opt to bring your own firearms and ammunition, it’s important to ensure they comply with the regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Throughout the course, firearms must be either cased or holstered at all times, unless instructed otherwise by our instructors.
What's the Timeframe for Certificate Submission in Virginia?
You have up to one year from the date of issuance of your certificate to submit it, along with a background check, at your local courthouse, as per your residence requirements. For further details, please consult your local courthouse for accurate information.
What's the Validity Period of My CCW Permit in Virginia?
Your CCW permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia is valid for a span of 5 years from its issuance date. Should the permit reach its expiration, a subsequent in-person course is required for reapplying for your concealed carry permit in Virginia. Is Online CCW Certification Available?
