Hosted by Bear Arms Training\, this course is designed for experienced handgun shooters who are ready to move beyond traditional square-range shooting and develop practical\, real-world defensive handgun skills. \nThis packet contains important information to help you prepare for a safe\, productive\, and challenging weekend of training. \nCOURSE OVERVIEW \nThis is not a beginner handgun course. Students should already possess safe firearm handling skills\, be comfortable drawing from a quality holster\, and understand the fundamentals of marksmanship. Throughout this 2.5-day program\, students will develop the knowledge and practical skills necessary to fight effectively with a handgun under realistic conditions. \n\nTraining topics include:\nHeight-over-bore and bullet trajectory\nAcceptable versus precision accuracy\nBuilding efficient draw strokes\nRecoil management\nShooting at realistic defensive speeds\nShooting while moving\nDynamic movement and positional shooting\nOne-handed handgun operation Injured shooter techniques\nGround fighting with a handgun\nClose-contact handgun employment\nProtecting and moving family members or third parties\nDecision-making under stress\nVehicle considerations\nDefensive problem-solving\n\n*This course is physically and mentally demanding and is designed to challenge experienced shooters in a safe and structured learning environment. \nABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR  \nAdam Winch Founder & Lead Instructor Defenders USA Adam Winch is a nationally recognized firearms instructor\, Master Instructor\, and former military and law enforcement professional with extensive real-world operational experience. \nHe has trained military personnel\, law enforcement officers\, instructors\, and responsibly armed citizens throughout the United States. Adam’s teaching philosophy emphasizes practical performance over square-range marksmanship. His instruction combines efficient handgun manipulation\, movement\, decision-making\, and defensive problem-solving rooted in real-world experience. \nStudents can expect individualized coaching\, measurable performance standards\, and a challenging—but supportive—learning environment. \nTRAINING SCHEDULE  \nDry Fire Clinic \nFriday Evening – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM  \n*Friday evening begins with an in-depth Dry Fire Clinic designed to establish the foundation for the weekend.  \nTopics include:  \n\nEfficient handgun presentation\nVisual processing Trigger control\nRecoil management concepts\nBuilding an effective dry-fire program\nDiagnosing shooting performance\nPurposeful practice methods\n\n*This session provides the “why” behind high-level handgun performance and prepares students for the live-fire training to follow. \nSaturday 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM  \nSaturday begins with safety verification\, accuracy confirmation\, and handgun handling assessment before progressing into: \n\nPrecision shooting\nDraw stroke refinement\nRecoil management\nPersonal speed development\nShooting while moving\nClose-range applications\nDynamic movement drills\n\nSunday 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM  \nTraining expands into more advanced applications including: \n  \n\nGround fighting techniques\nUnconventional shooting positions\nOne-handed shooting\nProtecting others\nDynamic movement\nDecision-based engagements Integrated defensive exercises\n\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS \nThis is a moderately physical training course. Students should be capable of: Standing for extended periods Walking over uneven terrain Kneeling Squatting Moving safely to and from the ground Performing repeated positional transitions while safely handling a loaded handgun Students should also expect mentally demanding drills requiring sound judgment\, awareness\, and safe gun handling throughout the weekend. \nREQUIRED EQUIPMENT  \nStudents should bring: \n\nReliable semi-automatic handgun\nStrong-side belt holster (OWB or approved IWB)\nMinimum of three magazines (five recommended)\nMagazine pouches\nApproximately 1\,000 rounds of factory ammunition\nEye protection Hearing protection (electronic recommended)\nBaseball cap\nKnee pads (recommended)\nIndividual First Aid Kit (IFAK)\nTourniquet (CAT Gen 7 or SOF-T Wide recommended)\nCleaning kit and lubricant\nNote-taking materials\n\nDRIVING DIRECTIONS \nFrom I-66 (Front Royal) Take Exit 6 toward Front Royal. Follow US-340 South to VA-55 West. Turn onto Fort Valley Road (VA-678). \nContinue approximately 8 miles\, turn left onto Dry Run Road\, then right onto Boyer Road. From I-81 (Strasburg) Take Exit 296 and follow VA-55 East toward Front Royal. \nTurn right onto Fort Valley Road (VA-678).
